It's official: 2023 will be the year of Digital Lavender.

2023 is set to be an interesting year.

The new year is one of the most exciting times; a transition period that's met with anticipation. As we close the book on 2022—and all the major design trends associated with it. the design geeks in us look forward to how our lives, homes, clothes and technology will continue to evolve in the 12 months ahead.

Which phenomenons will take center stage?

Which fads will prove to be fleeting?

Will AI robots take over the world and our laptops will finally get their own back on us for not safely ejecting our USBs for decades?

Is there a colour everyone will be obsessed with?

Well, according to consumer research company WGSN, a shade called Digital Lavender is already ruling 2023.

Everyone knows what lavender is. It’s a soft pastel and the experts reckon it exudes serenity, stability, and, despite its name, digital escapism.

"It’s a sensorial shade that connects to holistic wellbeing and digital optimism," explains Gemma Riberti, WGSN's head of interiors.

"This shade poses that much needed escapism that people are craving post-pandemic and even in times of budget crunch, It is imaginative and creative but also speaks of hope and balance."

Already embedded in digital culture, it is expected that this imaginative colour will converge across virtual and physical worlds.

As a gender-inclusive colour, its sensorial quality makes it ideal for self-care rituals, healing practices and wellness products, and this purple will also be key for consumer electronics, digitised wellness, mood-boosting lighting and homewares.

Interesting right?

You heard it here first.

Kind of.

Well not at all really, WGSN did the hard work - I just stay on trend.
